Boron Carbide

Boron carbide is one of the hardest materials known to date, it is the third after the diamond and boron nitride respectively. It is the hardest material produced on an industrial scale. It is used for control rods in nuclear reactors and used as filament for the reinforcement of the structure of some alloys. It is very difficult to sinter without the aid of specialized equipment for this activity, counts on good chemical resistance, good nuclear properties, as well as low density. It is used to give final finishing to the diamond tools, for the polished one of surfaces and cuts under pressure with water.
